In 2009, a breeder in Taiwan created the very first Black Bolt Shrimp on earth. The shrimp made its debut on Taiwan Aquarium Expo at the same year and became a big hit. With its distinct black and white body color, Black Bolt Shrimp even won a shrimp contest in Germany. It is commonly believed that the Black Bolt Shrimp is developed from Crystal Black Shrimp. At that time, it was very difficult to achieve mass production; you could only find very rare high-quality specimens in thousands of baby shrimps.

2009 年，臺灣水族玩家培養出全世界第一隻黑金剛蝦，並於當年度的「臺灣觀賞魚博覽會」嶄露頭角，颳起了一股旋風。黑金剛蝦憑藉其濃郁黑白相間的外表，更在德國舉辦的觀賞蝦大賽拿下冠軍。黑金剛蝦，一般推論是由黑白水晶蝦變異而得，在黑金剛蝦剛問世時，量產十分不易，往往在數千尾仔蝦中，只有幾尾品質優異的個體。
